Batu Caves, Malaysia
My favorite monkeys have been at the Batu Caves right
outside Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A 140-ft Lord Murugan guards the 272 steps |
The area of Gombak is just outside Kuala Lumpur |
The Batu Caves are a Hindu pilgrimage site and over 1 million people come each year to Thaipasum in January or February. There is a temple at the base of the stairs with many Hindu
images and sculptures.
As you climb, there are more shrines and imagery.
Even though I'm not Hindu, I still enjoyed the area because of the monkeys and the caves. I'll talk about the caves in a later post. There are lots of monkeys clamoring around the caves. Some
would hang over tourists and watch them from above.
Not everyone was amused at the monkey business |
The babies were my favorite:
Monkey play dates were the best:

The monkeys were tenacious and quick. They would try to grab
bags and anything else they could get their hands on, including human treats and objects:
The monkeys at the Batu Cave were the most healthy looking
and wild that I've seen:
Very cute picture, Dan!
